Our agency played an important role in the research for the “Flavescence dorée” project. Flavescence dorée is a serious epidemic disease affecting grapevines, classified as one of the most dangerous and destructive diseases in the wine industry. It is caused by a microorganism similar to bacteria but without a cell wall, which settles in the plant's phloem vessels, hindering the proper flow of processed sap and causing physiological imbalances. The leaves of infected plants show yellowing (in white grape varieties) or reddening (in black grape varieties), often in patches and delimited by the veins, and tend to become leathery and curled downward.
For eight months, thanks to continuous monitoring of the vineyards between Portogruaro, Soave, Breganze, and Susegana, carried out using cameras installed on special tubes, it was possible to observe the evolution and behavior of these microorganisms in the various vineyards. The activities carried out and the management of the project in which we were involved were aimed at informing and training other entities operating in the wine sector.
